Armag Afrique โ Advanced WordPress Development
WordPress as a Development Platform, Not Just a CMS
Armag Afrique is a company specializing in construction, real estate development, and mining. Its property portfolio includes apartments, individual houses, residential complexes, and commercial or professional premises.
For this project, I designed and developed the company's website using WordPress. The approach went beyond installing a theme and configuring existing plugins.
Customizing WordPress at Multiple Levels
My work involved several layers of the CMS:
- Themes: Modifying and adapting existing code to meet the website's requirements.
- Templates: Restructuring templates to control how pages and content are rendered.
- Plugins: Developing custom extensions to implement required functionality.
- Content structure: Adapting how content is organized and presented.
This approach makes it possible to address specific requirements without being limited to the capabilities of a ready-made theme or page builder.
Understanding How WordPress Works
Custom WordPress development requires an understanding of the CMS lifecycle, its hooks, template hierarchy, and extension mechanisms.
For example, a plugin can use a hook to register functionality at the appropriate point in the execution lifecycle, while a template controls how a particular page type is rendered.
<?php
add_action('init', function () {
register_post_type('real_estate_property', [
'labels' => [
'name' => 'Properties',
'singular_name' => 'Property',
],
'public' => true,
'has_archive' => true,
'show_in_rest' => true,
'supports' => [
'title',
'editor',
'thumbnail',
],
]);
});This snippet illustrates one WordPress development approach; it is not a confirmed implementation from the actual website. A custom post type could, for example, be used to manage real estate properties separately from standard pages.
Project Objective
The goal was to build a website tailored to Armag Afrique's identity and requirements, with a customized structure and the flexibility to extend its functionality beyond WordPress's standard configuration.
This project demonstrates my ability to work directly with a CMS's underlying code, understand its architecture, and adapt it to specific business needs.
